If I Install an App, Will It Be Available for All Users?
Whether an application is available for all users on a cloud computer—or only for the user who installed it—depends on both how the app is installed and the type of cloud environment you're using. This article explains the differences between single-user (BYOL) and multi-user (Windows Server) environments on V2 Cloud.
🧍 Single-User VMs (BYOL – Windows 10/11)
In V2 Cloud, Single User VMs include:
- One built-in admin account
- The option to add one additional user
- Only one user can be connected at a time
Installation Behavior
- ✅ Apps installed under the admin account will generally be available to both users, unless the app restricts it.
- ⚠️ If the app is installed under the secondary user, it may only be available for that specific profile depending on the installer.
Even though only one person can connect at a time, installations still follow the per-user or all-users installation behavior, especially for apps using AppData or custom paths.
Multi-User Server Environments (Windows Server 2019/2022)
In multi-user server environments, multiple users have separate sessions and profiles. App availability depends on:
🔧 How the App Was Installed
- Installed as an administrator and for “All users”:
✅ Available to everyone
- Installed as a standard user or “Just me”:
❌ Available only to the installing user
👀 Where the App Is Installed
- C:\Program Files: Usually system-wide
- C:\Users\[Username]\AppData: User-specific
💡 Best Practices
- 🔒 Use the admin account when installing apps
- ✅ Choose “Install for all users” during setup
- ⚙️ If unsure, check with support—we can help verify installation scope
