AdobeCollabSync.exe - Entry Point Not Found Error on Windows Server 2016

📋 Issue Summary

When launching Adobe products (such as Acrobat DC) on Windows Server 2016, users may encounter the following error:

AdobeCollabSync.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point SetThreadDescription could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat DC\Acrobat\AdobeGrowthSDK.dll.

🛠️ Root Cause

This is due to incompatibility between AdobeCollabSync.exe and the Windows Server 2016 API, specifically the missing SetThreadDescription function not supported on this OS version. This process handles Adobe’s cloud collaboration features (like shared comments and notifications).

✅ Workaround (Recommended Fix)

If cloud sync features are not needed, you can safely disable the AdobeCollabSync process to eliminate the error.

⚠️ Important: Before making changes, ensure all other users are fully signed off the cloud computer. If other users are only disconnected, this process may still run and block the file rename.

🔄 Steps:

  1. Sign out all users except yourself from the cloud desktop.

  2. Navigate to:

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat DC\Acrobat\

Rename the following files:

  • AdobeCollabSync.exeAdobeCollabSync-disabled.exe

  • AdobeGrowthSDK.dllAdobeGrowthSDK-disabled.dll (optional, but recommended)

Restart the machine or log off/log back in.

🔁 Note: May Return After Adobe Updates

Adobe updates may restore the original files and reintroduce the issue. If that happens, repeat the steps above.

There is no permanent fix available as of now — a proper resolution would need to come from Adobe via update.
